Obituary in The Bienville Democrat January 20, 1944:

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Simsboro Baptist Church for J.C. Dowling, age 54, who died at the Ruston Sanitarium on Tuesday, Jan. 11 following a long illness. Services were conducted by Rev. A.H. Johnson, pastor of the Simsboro church, assisted by Rev. W.T. Strain. Interment was in Vienna Cemetery.

Mr. Dowling was a prominent planter, and member of the police jury of Lincoln Parish, and had also served as a member of the board of directors of the Arcadia Production Credit Association for a number of years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Willie Jiles Dowling; two sons, Dhu in the U.S. Army in England and Lamar; two daughters, Lenora and Dorothy Mae.

Obituary:-
Funeral services for Mr. Dowling, age 84 of Simsboro, were held Friday, November 21, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Simsboro, LA, with Dr. Wilton Wall and Rev. Ronnie Cathey officiating. Burial followed in Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Dowling was born to Joseph Cottrell and Willie Eather Dowling. He died at his home in Simsboro after a lengthy illness. Mr. Dowling was a lifelong farmer and was the owner of Dowling's General Merchandising in Simsboro for 15 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Simsboro and was the head of the Building and Grounds Committee during the renovation of the church. Mr. Dowling was also passionate about the current building project at the church. He was a Lincoln Parish School Board Member for 23 years and also served on the Lincoln Parish Police Jury for 12 years. Mr. Dowling was a strong Christian Man who set high examples for his family and friends.

Mr. Dowling is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Ann Watson Dowling, daughter-in-law Dee Dowling; sons: Curtis Dowling and wife Linda of Simsboro, Bobby Dowling and wife Donna of Simsboro and Ronnie Dowling and wife Paula of Ruston; grandchildren: Dusty Dowling and wife Patti, Julie and husband Trey McIntosh, Karen Dowling, Angela and husband Clark Canterbury, Melane and husband Kenny Slocum, Lauren Dowling, Lamar Dowling, Anna Grace Dowling, David Dowling; six great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special sister-in-law Mary Smart and brother-in-law Don Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: Scott Dowling; one brother: Dhu Dowling; two sisters: Lenora Hosford and Dorothy Lawrence and granddaughters: Aimee and Melissa Dowling.

Pallbearers were Dusty Dowling, Lamar Dowling, Kenny Slocum, Clark Canterbury, Trey McIntosh, Richard Durrett, Dempsy Coon and David Gullatt. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Dowling, Ray Canterbury, Fred Carter, Bobby Conville, Bud Durrett, Gene Moore, Jimmy Howell, J.G. Lewis, James Odom and members of the Simsboro Lion's Club.

Visitation at the Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston November 20, 2008. Planned memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Simsboro Building Fund.

Funeral services for Ann Youngblood Dowling, 66, of Calhoun, La., were held Friday, February 24, 1995 at First Baptist Church of Calhoun with Bro. Clemon Smith officiating and Bor. Melton Prothro assisted. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery in Calhoun under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, La. Mrs. Dowling died Thursday, February 21, 1995 in Ruston, La. following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Dowling was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun. She was a native of Gibsland, having lived in Calhoun for the past 14 years. She was preceded in death by her son Russell Dowling.

She is survived by her husband, Dhu Dowling of Calhoun; two sons, Thomas Dowling of Gardendale, Ala. and Roy Dowling of Farmerville, La.; two daughters, Jean Thayer of Buras, La. and Sibyl Russell of Haughton, La.; brother Lloyd Youngblood of Gibsland; five grandsons and four granddaughters.

Pallbearers were Willard Futrell, James Futrell, Jerry Lovett, Joe Purdy, Donnie Burton, Butch Oaks, Bill Porter, and Donald Bradshaw.

It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Dowling Thayer announce her passing from this life on March 23, 2019. Her kindness, love, and laugh will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Her love of Christ was evident in her everyday life. She was an angel long before she left this world and graced our lives with joy. Jean was residing at 2750 Millerville Rd Apt 3108, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70816. Jean was born on November 11, 1949 in Simsboro, Louisiana. She was a proud alumnus of Haughton High School, Northwestern State University, and Louisiana Tech University. After being a registered dietician in a hospital setting for several years, she taught food and nutrition courses at Ouachita Baptist University. After hurricane Katrina in 2005, she retired from Plaquemines Parish School Board as Director of School Food Service. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Dhu and Anne Dowling and brother Russell Lynn Dowling. Jean is survived by her adoring husband, Larry Frances Thayer, with whom she celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on September 16, 2019. She is also survived by three daughters who miss her dearly: Laurie Thayer and her husband Ernest Cline III of Arcata, California; Wendy Dolan and her husband Michael Dolan and their daughter Maeve of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Jennie Beth Loyal of Gretna, Louisiana. She is survived by three siblings: Sibyl Dowling Russell, Thomas Dhu Dowling, and Roy Wayne Dowling. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Don Hoy will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Southside Baptist Church in Denham Springs, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank at 10600 S Choctaw Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, 70815.

Funeral services for Martha Ann Dowling, 87, of Simsboro, LA will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2012, at Simsboro First Baptist Church with Bro. Ronnie Cathey and Bro. B.K. Miller officiating. She passed away on November 30, 2012, at her home in Simsboro surrounded by her family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Interment will follow in the Simsboro City Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.

Martha Ann was an inspiration to her family and friends and a constant witness of her Christian faith. She was a true prayer warrior, never wavering in her commitment to the Lord, and touched many lives through her faithful example.

Mrs. Dowling is survived by her sons - Curtis Dowling and wife, Linda, of Simsboro, LA; Bobby Dowling and wife, Donna, of Simsboro, LA; Ronnie Dowling and wife, Paula, of Ruston, LA; and daughter-in-law, Dee Dowling of Simsboro, LA; grandchildren - Dusty Dowling and wife, Patti, of Baton Rouge, LA; Julie McIntosh and husband, Trey, of Oak Grove, LA; Karen Dowling of Simsboro, LA; Angela Canterbury and husband, Clark, of Simsboro, LA; Melane Slocum and husband, Kenny, of Simsboro, LA; Lauren Dowling of Ruston, LA; Lamar Dowling of Dallas, TX; Anna Grace Dowling of Simsboro, LA; and David Dowling of Simsboro, LA; great-grandchildren - John Patrick Dowling, Liam Dowling, Ellie Dowling, Alyssa Dru McIntosh, Cullen McIntosh, Richard Canterbury, Sydney Canterbury, and Eli Slocum; sister, Mary Smart of Arcadia, LA; and brother, Don Watson of Pointe, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Minnie Mae Watson; siblings, Janice Watson and James Watson; husband of 62 years, Lamar Dowling; son, Scott Dowling; and granddaughters, Aimee Dowling and Melissa Dowling.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dusty Dowling, Lamar Dowling, David Dowling, Trey McIntosh, Clark Canterbury, and Kenny Slocum.

Honorary Pallbearers are the ladies of the Laura Strain Sunday School Class.

A special thank you from our family to Dr. Ben Grigsby; Melissa Schroeder, her private nurse, who was a Godsend to our family; her sitters, Toni Latham, Bonnie Critton, Barbara Cato, and Dorothy Davis; and Hospice of Caring Hearts.
