Mrs. Dorothy Marie Drury
Manhattan-- Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church here for Mrs. Dorothy Marie Dowling Drury, 66, Manhattan. She died Sunday, April 6, at a Manhattan hospital.
Mrs. Drury taught secretarial subjects and court reporting at Palmer's School of Commerce in Manhattan.

She was born Dec. 1, 1919, at Manhattan, the daughter of Joseph P. and Florence A. Stephens Dowling. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy at Manhattan and attended Fort Hays State University at Hays.

Mrs. Drury was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the altar society at the church, the auxiliary to Lee Pierson Post No. 1786 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a charter member of the J.C. Jaynes, all at Manhattan.

She was married to Robert C. Drury March 3, 1944 at Fort Polk, La. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Robert D. Drury, Osborne; three daughters, Sharon M. Gagnon, Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet K. Meredith, Pittsburg and Marlene J. Woodard, Manhattan; five sisters, Helen McVey, Lakewood, Calif., Margery Voelker, Washington, Iowa, Jo Zoeller, Topeka, Arlene Bechtel, Manhattan and Rita Ruhr, Phoenix, Ariz., and eight grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Irvin Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Margery was born on November 14, 1922 in Ogden, Kansas the daughter of Joseph and Florence (Stephens) Dowling.
She attended school in Ogden, Kansas and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Manhattan, Kansas. Margery attended college at Kansas State University. During World War II she worked at the Boeing Air Craft Company in Wichita, Kansas.
On October 23, 1943 she was united in marriage to Earl C. Voelker in Trenton, New Jersey. They lived in New Jersey, Manhattan, Kansas and Greely, Colorado before moving to Ottumwa in 1956. In 1966 they moved to Washington, Iowa where she worked for the Washington Community School District as the Director of Food Service until her retirement in 1986. In 2004, Margery moved to Iowa City where she has lived at Melrose Meadows Retirement Community.

Margery was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Washington where she served as a lay director for many years, was a life long member of Catholic Daughters, a member of Altar and Rosary Society, Fortnightly, Washington Community Y Women, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, was an avid Bridge Player belonging to many Bridge Clubs, and was an active member of the Democratic Party.

Margery is survived by six children, Earl Voelker Jr. (Ann) of Washington, New Jersey; Philip Voelker (Jo) of Omaha, Nebraska; Trish Kallembach (Larry) of Chicago, Illinois; Michael Voelker (Sharon) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Paul Voelker (Kris) of Richardson, Texas; Peg Voelker (Mary Fisher) of Iowa City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Arlene Bechtel of Manhattan, Kansas; Jo Zoeller of Topeka, Kansas; and Rita Ruhr of Phoenix, Arizona.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1992; and two sisters, Helen McVey and Dorothy Drury.

Age 83 years.

Obituary:- Jo Zoeller, 84, Topeka, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011.

Jo was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Riley County, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Florence Stephens Dowling.

She attended grade school at Walnut Grove in Riley County and then Sacred Heart Academy in Manhattan, KS. After high school, Jo attended business school.

In 1947, Jo married the love of her life, Bob Zoeller. He preceded her in death Aug. 6, 2009. They enjoyed over 61 years together.

Survivors include their children, Steve Zoeller, Wichita, Dr. Ron Zoeller, Topeka; Debbie Exley (Don), Erie, CO, and Dr. Mark Zoeller (Linda), Topeka; grandchildren, Brandon Zoeller (Heather), Nathan Zoeller, Ashley Zoeller, BreAnne Matthies (Jason), Erik Exley and Colby Zoeller (Stephanie); six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Bechtel (Don) and Rita Ruhr. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Drury, Helen McVey, and Margery Voelker.

Jo and Bob were founding members of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a Sacristan and belonged to the Perpetual Adoration Society. She was also a member of the Kansas Chiropractic Auxiliary. Jo was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and raised four children.

Visitation will be Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd., Topeka, KS 66614, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
