MULLINS - Frances Miriam Winkler, 84, of Mullins, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home. She was born in Bayboro, South Carolina on August 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Alonzo McDaniel and the late Ruth Dowling McDaniel.

Frances loved her church, Mullins First Baptist Church, and enjoyed singing with the Adult Choir there. She developed many friendships over the years, not only through the church, but also through her work as a hairdresser. She will be greatly missed by countless friends and family who were blessed to know and love her, and most especially her husband of 64 years, LG.

In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by a son, Steve Winkler.

She is survived by her husband, LG Winkler; two sons, Butch Winkler of Nichols and Mike Winkler of Lake View; a brother, Robert McDaniel (Kit) of Maryland; a sister, Sylvia Smoak of Columbia; 1 granddaughter; and 1 great-grandson.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Red Hill Memorial Gardens in Mullins. We respectfully request that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the cemetery. A kind word in lieu of a hug or handshake will be greatly appreciated.

Find a Grave Obituary as at 26 March 2024:- Louise Dowling Drury, 80, (b. 22 Aug 1915) of Nahunta died Saturday (18 Mar 2000) in Marion, SC.

The funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Chambless Funeral Home with the Revs. Raymond Willis and R.C. Mathis officiating.

Burial will be in Knox Cemetery.

Rev. Hugh Arnold sang, "Amazing Grace," and "What a Day That Will Be."

Pallbearers were Nathan Strickland, Jared Strickland, Mike Winkler, L.G. Winkler Jr., Ben Wilson and Paul Dowling.

The family received friends Monday evening at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of David Allen Dowling and Nancy Lillian Highsmith Dowling. Her late husband was John Alvin Mills Drury.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A native of Wayne, now Brantley County, Mrs. Drury was a member of Atkinson Church of God of Prophecy. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and served as Postmaster of the Nahunta Post Office from 1943-1979.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.

Find a Grave Obituary as at 26 March 2024:- John Alvin Mills Drury, 86 (b. 22 Oct 1909), of Nahunta, died (12 Mar 1996) at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

A native of Wayne County in a section that is now Brantley County, he was the oldest son of the late George Wesley Drury and Virginia "Jennie" Reddish Drury.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Nahunta and had been a member of Nahunta Masonic lodge #391 F & A M for 50 years.

He was self-employed and was a tree farmer. At one time he owned a grocery store in Nahunta.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Louise Dowling Drury of Nahunta; a sister Myrtis Jacobs of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Mar. 15, at the Chambless Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Willis officiating. Music was by Sammy Drury.

Burial was in Knox Cemetery near Lulaton.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangements.

Find a Grave Obituary as at 26 March 2024:- Clyde Hilton Dowling, 53 (b. 1 Mar 1922), passed away Saturday night (17 Jan 1976) at his residence in Nahunta following a sudden coronary seizure. His death brings personal sorrow to a host of relatives and friends throughout his and other sections.

A native and lifelong resident of Brantley County he was a son of the late David Allen Dowling and Nancy Lillian Highsmith Dowling.

He received his education in the public school system. He worked several years as a machinist at Babcock and Wilcox Boiler Co. in Brunswick until declining health forced him to retire. He was a member of Nahunta Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Grace Rowell Dowling of Nahunta; two daughters, Linda Ryner of Brunswick and Vanessa Dowling of Nahunta; three sons, David Dowling of Nahunta, Hilton Dowling of Brunswick, and Danny Dowling, U.S. Army, of Savannah; one stepdaughter, Ann Tanner of Augusta; one stepson, Orin Long of Conway, S.C; one sister, Louise Drury (husband Alvin) of Nahunta; nine grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, from Nahunta Baptist Church with Rev. Hugh Arnold officiating. The body lay in state in the sanctuary for one hour prior to services.

Interment followed in the Knox Cemetery near Lulaton

Serving as casketbearers were David Morgan, Byron Highsmith, J. L. Morgan, Bill Wainright, C.W. Riggins and Leon Wilson.

The many beautiful floral offerings attested to the esteem felt for the deceased. The family has the sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement.

Chambless Funeral Home of Nahunta was in charge of arrangement.

Mary Grace Rowell Dowling, 77, of Brunswick, Ga., died early Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2004, in the Forum Health Care at Wildwood Park in Brunswick.
A former resident of Nahunta, Ga., she had attended the Ivory Palace Church. She then moved to Brunswick, where she had lived for the last six years. Born in Loris, S.C., her parents were Marion and Lucille Jordan Rowell. Her husband, Clyde Hilton Dowling, and a son, Hilton Dowling, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dowling worked as a sitter in the health care field before retiring.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Hackle of Swainsboro, Ga., Linda Riner of Brunswick and Vanessa Wilson of Wrens, Ga.; three sons, Oran Long of Loris, David Dowling of Cabot, Ark., and Danny Dowling of Nahunta; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Lee of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Shirley Williamson of McBean, S.C., and Barbara Blanton of Loris; two brothers, Wayne and Wendell Rowell both of Loris; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday evening starting at 6 p.m. at Chambless-Frye Funeral Home in Nahunta.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Chambless-Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Arnold officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Knox Cemetery.
