Letter stated that Mary Daly had "various spellings". "It appears that after leaving Ireland, probably because of the potato famine, the first record I have of them (James Doolan 1829) is living in Glossop, Derbyshire, before moving to the North West Durham area, living in a village called Bushblades, near West Stanley, Co. Durham. The village no longer exists and is now just open pasture land. My main interest in the family name was to find out who the actual ancestor was who came to England and, of course, everyone in the family could say it is an Irish name, but no one knew the actual person. "
