On 5 Mar 2021, Gerry Phelan (1959-) says, "When my Grandmother Mary Phelan nee Dowling (1882-1924) died, my father Thomas Phelan (1920-1986) was sent to be raised by his Aunt Margaret (Maggie) Quigley nee Dowling (1888-1958) in Errill, Co Laois. This was because he was only 4 years of age when his Mother Mary Phelan nee Dowling (1882-1924) passed away in childbirth with Mary Phelan (1924- ) and his Father Thomas Phelan (1875-1947) would not have been able to raise the youngest children in the family of eleven children. Similarly my Aunt Mary Phelan (1924- ) was sent to be raised by her Aunt Sarah Delaney nee Dowling (1887-1954) in Rathdowney, Laois. Because Mary never knew her real mother, Mary Phelan nee Dowling, she regards Sarah Delaney nee Dowling as her Mother. Incidentally I am happy to say that Aunt Mary is alive and well at almost 97 years of age and she lives in a Nursing Home near me in Castleknock, Co. Dublin. She recently has had COVID-19 but thankfully she has recovered and has now been vaccinated which we as a family are all delighted about."

"My Father Thomas Phelan (1920-1986) spent a great deal of time in his youth farming with my Uncle Maurice Dowling (1884-1944). Thomas Phelan (1920-1986), Maurice’s nephew, was the person who was present at his death as per the death record. While Maurice died in Errill where he resided, the farm that he owned and that he and Thomas Phelan farmed together was a farm in a place called The Heath, Clonmeen, Laois which is just outside Errill. This is where all of the Andrew Dowling (1817-1900) descendants also farmed in Clonmeen North and Clonmeen South. It is common knowledge in the Phelan Family that the descendants of Edward Dowling (1805-1881) and Andrew Dowling (1817-1900) were related."
