I am searching for information on my gggrandparents immegrated from Ireland to Ontario circa 1865. My ggrandfathew Mathew, b.1870 in Ontario married my ggrandmother Victoria nee Delona in Wallaceburg November 13, 1898 with a James Dowling (brother?) as a witness. Victoria's mother Sophia was from Ontario possibly Wallaceburg and married to Francis Delona of Chesterfield Twp, Macomb County Michigan.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I read with interest your message on the Dowlings. I am from Darlington,SC. My ggrandfather was Frances Asbury Dowling,but I cannot remember any names further back than his.However, I do know that my branch of the family came directly (or so I've been told) from England on a land grant from the king. I believe that the Robert Dowling you mentioned was a relative of Frances Asbury, perhaps a brother or an uncle. There is a Confederate War Memorial to a Robert Dowling in our old family Cemetery plot.I will try to obtain more information about this from other family members. In the meantime, please keep me posted if you learn anything else that may be significant. I would be very interested in reprints of the book, and also of details about the Dowling reunion in Ireland that some of the "cousins" have been talking about.

Citation Text: Collated by Brian Thomas Dowling (1955-) for the Dowling One-Name Study 1-Dec-1998:- I am decended from Robert Dowling(1730) thru his son John Dowling and Nancy Boutewell, their daughter , Jemima Dowling mar Benjamin Hildreth, their dau Harriet Calloway Hildreth mar my gr-gr-grandfather Henry B. Grimes, this family was in Ala. and then on to TX. I would be interested in the book Dowling Family of THe South, is there anyway to contact Brian? I have more info on Jemima and her immediate family but not a lot on John and Nancy, only what I scaned at my cousins house who had copies of the pages pertaining to Jemima and down.
